We ALL like a little “sweet” in our life! The truth is, our taste buds have been hijacked and our bodies are out of balance and we CRAVE more than just a little sweet…
Before I share a stunning recipe that is about as sweet as a treat EVER needs to be, let’s just explore this topic a little bit!
In recent years the conversation about sugar has become more mainstream and there’s a great deal of call to remove “sugar” from the diet and yet the we need to delve deeper still to truly see the “bitter truth”…
With winter fast approaching and the threat of “bugs” imminent, it’s time to take stock, undertake a “Sugar” audit of sorts because our immune systems are POWERFULLY impacted, detrimentally, with excessive sugar intake. Excessive is the talking point in question…
Now I know this is a difficult topic to discuss, because “sugar” impacts so many systems in the body, particularly the “addictive” pathways, and just the thought of where this chat might head may be leaving you feeling a little uneasy!?!? BUT I encourage you to read on, if not for your OWN sake, then that of your kids because you are about to take a deep dive into a subject that WILL save them from future heartache and pain, quite literally…
If you aren’t already aware, sugar is a little devil, it can infiltrate our lives SO easily, as we’ll discover, and cause endless imbalance and stress at a basic cellular level.
In fact, sugar is at the heart of ALL dis-ease and disease and is very much part of the picture that guarantees a CHRONIC health issue for our kids unless we address it sooner rather than later!
From eczema to infertility, from exhaustion to cancer, from asthma to heart disease…sugar has a part to play.
If you want to know the ins and outs of “sugar” then follow me on facebook this week, click here, for my “Sugar” Inquest, where all you need to know will be revealed.
The fact is, we MUST remove excess sugar to be healthy, and if we don’t then to expect lasting health is simply a crazy dream…
This might be inconvenient to hear, but how inconvenient is a chronic health issue? I don’t want to “sugar” coat this topic, let’s talk plainly and you’ll know exactly what you’re up against AND what you can do about it.
An unfortunate truth is that we’ve been duped for a LONG time about what food we should and shouldn’t be eating. We’ve let those who shouldn’t even BE part of this conversation, particularly food manufacturing, have a VERY LOUD say and shape our beliefs and purchasing behaviour which has fuelled our position AND dare I say it, shaped our biochemistry making a “change VERY challenging.
I want you to know that you really can turn things around from wherever you are currently at, I’ve seen countless families in clinic do it from seemingly NO return and if they can, and I can, YOU can too…The incentive is pretty HUGE, let’s be honest, we are either setting our kids up for stunning health or a world of hurt!
With a STRONG incentive we can achieve ANYTHING! Seriously! It’s time to do a sugar audit and be brutally honest about the sugar in your life and I’m NOT talking about the obvious refined stuff, look for how often the following are in your diet: cakes, lollies, biscuit, bread, cereal, fizzy drink, juice, honey, maple syrup, white sugar, brown sugar, panella, rapadura, coconut sugar, brown rice syrup, agave nectar, coconut nectar, barley malt, molasses, golden syrup, (in fact any syrup), caramel, FRUIT (fresh and dried – too much of a good thing as they say!), corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, anything ending is “ose”, date sugar, demerara, dextran, malt, fake sugar and any sugar alcohol…
If you take the time to explore and resolve the “sugar” issue in your family’s life, you WILL have a profound impact.
Keep a food diary, download a copy of the “Sugar Audit” here, so you can track the sugar in your family’s food! This can be very revealing and help you to identify where you need to take action.
Next week, we’ll talk more about the NEXT steps, exactly HOW to remove sugar from YOUR family’s life, for now, begin YOUR “Sugar Audit” and begin your journey to lasting, resilient, vibrant health today!
Enjoy this REALLY sugar free Anzac Bar recipe:
I recommend using organic where possible.
- 3 cups rolled oats
- ½ cup sprouted spelt or gf flour
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- ½ cup melted butter or coconut oil or macadamia oil
- 1 cup apricots soaked in ¼ cup boiled water turning to absorb liquid
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg plus an additional egg white
Preheat oven to 180C and line a rectangular or square pan, around 22cm. Combine ingredients well and press into lined tin and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden. Cool for 5 mintes then cut into bars and allow to cool completely in the tin. These store in an airtight container for up to 10 days and also freeze well.
