The NUMBER 1 Strategy for Improving Child Health

What do you think is the most valuable piece of health advice you have ever had? I really would be interested in hearing it so go ahead and post below!

This is a question I am routinely asked and while I do believe that “just eat REAL food” is the answer, in the interests of keeping the first step really simple for EVERYONE I think the most valuable piece of health advice I could give is:

drinking pure, fresh, clean water is a MUST

This often overlooked activity is a critical to the health of every cell in the body. In fact, our bodies are made up of 2/3 water and a lack of it can trigger health issues of any kind, from headaches to cancer. Check out the impact of water on health in the picture above.

I routinely see kids in clinic that are suffering from the impact of insufficient water on a daily basis and the impact can be beyond what we would normally call “physical” health issues and extend into the emotional realm causing behavioural issues, stress, anxiousness and more.

In truth, a lack of water puts enormous pressure on the kidneys and dehydration can lead to deadness so is NOT an issue to underestimate.

A lack of water impacts quality of life!

A number of studies have clearly identified the issues with a lack of water consumption AND have directly shown that most children are not getting enough.

“Lack of water ingestion is a significant issue for our¬†children, with multiple consequences,” said Dr. Ron Marino, associate chair of pediatrics at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y.

Now that the weather is warming up it is vital to ensure your child is sipping water throughout the day, which is the best way to prevent under and dehydration. AND with kids being as active as they generally are they often need more than might have been on your radar during the cooler months.

Pure, clean water is an absolute must which brings me to the issue of scheme water and filtration. Most scheme (normal tap) water is loaded with TOXINS that are central to the increasing health issues we are seeing in kids, particularly auto-immune disease. Tap water contains chlorine and fluorine which is NOT beneficial to child health in fact damages our kids in spite of the marketing message you might have heard.

Good water filtration does not cost the bomb so if you don’t give your kids filtered water I highly recommend you do some local research. Water is vital, BUT pure water is the best option, otherwise you are adding to the toxic load our kids are already burdened with!

There are no replacements for water! (Except herbal tea) Make this activity number one on your “To Do” list and know that you are addressing the NUMBER 1 health strategy for your kids and then you can just build from there!

  1. Hi Sally,
What is the best sort of water filter to use? I have considered so many different types only to find the options more and more overwhelming!

I don’t mind spending the amount needed to get a really efficient system, but it would be helpful to get some direction on one worth investing in.

  2. I thought you were going to say sleep, but absolutely yes to water. It becomes quite a difficult habit to instill if it hasn’t been done from a really young age.
